Part of a story on a $439,172 fine assessed against Southmountain Coal Co. and a mine operator was dropped inadvertently Wednesday.
The missing material concerned the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration's investigation of the Dec. 7 explosion that killed eight miners. It noted that the MSHA's findings were nearly identical to those in an earlier state report. The attorney for mine operator William Ridley Elkins said they would appeal the fines; an attorney for Southmountain could not be reached for comment.
