CARJACKER TO SPEND LIFE BEHIND BARS

A man convicted in a carjacking death that prompted Congress and several states to declare the crime a felony was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Rodney Solomon, 27, had been convicted Friday of first-degree murder and six other counts in the death of Pamela Basu, who was dragged to her death as she struggled to reach her baby in the back seat of her stolen BMW.

The jury had three options: the death penalty, life without parole, or a life sentence with parole possible.

His accomplice, Bernard Miller, was convicted of first-degree murder in April and sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole in 17 1/2 years. He was shielded from the death penalty because he was only 16 at the time of the crime.
