MEETING AT CIVIC CENTER

Because a large crowd is expected to attend Monday's meeting on the Roanoke Gas franchise, City Council will move its 2 p.m. session to the Roanoke Civic Center.

First, council will also have a special, closed meeting at 11 a.m. Monday to discuss the franchise issue.

Council will start its regular session at 2 p.m. in the Council Chamber, but then immediately recess, resuming the session at the Civic Center Coliseum for discussion on Roanoke Gas.

"We are moving it because we want to be sure that we have enough room for everyone," City Clerk Mary Parker said Saturday. "We want to get the word out so people can go directly to the civic center instead of the Municipal Building."

To comply with city policy, council meetings must be convened in its chamber, officials said, unless there has been a legal advertisement ahead of time notifying the public of a change.

"`No action will be taken before the meeting is moved to the civic center," Parker said.
