ROANOKE MAN DIES AFTER CAR HITS POLE

A Roanoke man died early Monday after the car in which he was riding veered off West Main Street in Salem and struck a utility pole.

Police said Clifford Dwayne Efferson, 22, of Leon Street Northwest died after being airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Efferson was riding as a passenger in his 1980 Toyota, which was being driven by Tyrone M. Browne. Browne, 23, of Williamson Road, was also injured.

Browne was treated at Lewis-Gale Hospital. Police said he was to be released from the hospital Monday.

Efferson's car was just east of Duiguids Lane when it veered off the right side of the road around 2 a.m.
