Representatives of the two competing hospitals will each get up to 10 minutes at the start of the hearing to present their version of the project and the need for it.
Questions will then be taken from people attending the hearing who want points clarified that have been raised in the opening presentations.
Comments from the public will follow, with each speaker being allowed up to five minutes.
People are encouraged to submit written comments to speed the hearing process, said Kenneth Cook of the Southwest Virginia Health Systems Agency, which is conducting the hearing.
At the end of the hearing, the agency will write up all the recorded comments for further study.
The agency's board will meet one week later, at 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Airport Holiday Inn in Roanoke, where both sides will again make their arguments for getting the center. There, the board will make its recommendation which will be sent to Robert Stroube, Virginia's commissioner of health, who has the final say.
