OBIT HUBBLE, LORA HESTER

HUBBLE, Lora Hester, 92, of Marion, died Sunday, August 22, 1993, in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Lawrence Herman Hubble, born July 9, 1901, and was the daughter of the late Eliza Brooks Hester and Henry Thomas Hester. Mrs. Hubble was a graduate of Marion High School and graduated from Marion College in 1918. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 82 years, having been a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years and on the alter guild for more than 20 years. Mrs. Hubble was also an active member of the United Methodist Women, a charter member and past worthy matron of the Marion Chapter of the Eastern Star, charter member, past president and life member of the Marion Garden Club, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy for 71 years and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Marguerite K. Hubble of Lynchburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Eliza H. and James W. Severt of Martinsville; one granddaughter, Deborah S. Hubble of Lynchburg; two grandsons, James W. Severt II and William Lawrence Severt, both of Richmond; one sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 1993, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. J. N. Howard and Rev. Edgar Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Hubble, KOPS Severt Scholarship at Emory & Henry College. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
