OBIT HUTCHENS, BESSIE GROSS

HUTCHENS, Bessie Gross, 86, of Chester, formerly of Montvale, passed away Sunday, August 22, 1993, in a Chester nursing home. She was born April 6, 1907 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Marsh Gross and Effie Lantz Gross. Her husband was the late Carroll Hutchens. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Lois Woods, Chester, Nell Wilson, Richmond, Irma Clough, Shertz, Texas, Joyce Abshire, Montvale; one daughter-in-law, Betty Hutchens, Richmond; two sisters, Odelle Giles, Montvale, Ruth Leonard, Vinton; three brothers, Bill Gross, Bedford, Frank Gross, Roanoke, Reubin Gross, Montvale; 13 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 24, 1993 at 2 p.m. from the Walnut Grove Union Church, by the Rev. Al Echols. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
