CHRISTIANSBURG MAN CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT OF FUEL

Town police have charged a Christiansburg man with embezzling more than $9,000 in oil and kerosene from his employer.

Lewis Eldridge Sumler, 46, of the Interstate Mobile Home Park, was charged Tuesday, Lt. Doug Marrs said.

Sumler is accused of embezzling $9,273 worth of oil and kerosene from CJ & S Petroleum Co. on Roanoke Street between November 1992 and March of this year.

Sumler was employed during that period as a truck driver with the company, delivering oil and kerosene to homes, Marrs said.

The company notified police of the loss in June.

The charges are a result of an investigation of discrepancies between company records and driver records of the amount of oil and kerosene entrusted to Sumler, Marrs said.

Sumler was released on a $1,000 bond. No court date was available.
