This letter is in recognition of quite a few heroes.
Jon Blankenship is my nephew, and if it hadn't been for the quick thinking and actions of all the people I'm about to thank, we wouldn't have Jon with us today.
When Michael Mollett saw Jon on fire on May 26, Michael started ripping off Jon's burning clothes. His quickness was the first step in saving Jon's life.
The Salem Rescue Squad arrived within minutes and went to work. Jon was then transferred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital's emergency room, where the team kept the family informed at all times. They were really patient and understanding of what we were going through.
A helicopter team then took Jon to the University of Virginia Burn Center.
We want to thank the Salem squad, the emergency room staff, the helicopter team and the burn unit team for saving Jon's life.
We thank you all for being in the right place at the right time! We also want to thank everyone for all their prayers and donations for Jon. Jon's condition has really improved over the last eight weeks.\ Thank you again,\ Donna J. Wertz (Jon's aunt)\ and family
