A month before the first crew of Biosphere 2 leaves its sealed environment near Oracle, Ariz., operators on Thursday began injecting oxygen to gradually restore the gas to the outside world's level. The oxygen is needed to make up for its steady depletion occurring since the closed system's began operating two years ago.

Government doctors warned parents Thursday to keep ethnic remedies locked away, citing the case of three Colorado children who nearly died from a popular Chinese herbal product. The children, ages 13 months to 2 1/2 years, overdosed on Jin Bu Huan, an herbal product marketed in U.S. health food stores as a dietary supplement, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

A restoration team has completed work on the statue of Armed Freedom that was removed from the dome of the Capitol in May. The 7-ton, 19-foot 6-inch bronze female warrior has been successfully cleaned and restored and will be returned by helicopter to its regular perch Oct. 23, said George White, the architect of the Capitol.
