NRVS DRIVERS GETTING WEEKEND OFF

New River Valley Speedway in Radford will be dark Saturday night as the NASCAR-sanctioned track takes a break because of the Winston Cup race in Bristol, Tenn.

Racing will resume Sept. 4 with the Dooley Printing 200, featuring a 100-lap Late Model Stock race, as well as Limited Sportsman, Modified Mini, Mini and Pure Stock action.

The final regular-season event will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 14. The change in dates was made because of the Winston Cup race at Richmond on Sept. 13.

A hot dog-eating contest - paying $100 to the winner - and free rides for children with their favorite drivers are just two of the attractions Saturday night for the Affiliated Electronics 300 at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway.

The racing card includes the standard lineup: 100 laps for Late Model Stock drivers and 25 laps each for Street Stock, Pure Stock, Mini Stock, Rookie and Any Car competitors.

Several New River Valley Speedway drivers - including Frankie Pennington and Rodney Cundiff - are expected to be at FCS on Saturday night because their track is closed.

Gates open at noon, qualifying starts at 6 p.m. and the first race begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $5, with children under 10 admitted free. Thursday night's practice was rained out and will be run at 6 p.m. today.

Tickets in the new Winston Tower seats at Martinsville Speedway will be available for the Goody's 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race on Sept. 26 and the Advance Auto Parts 500 NASCAR Busch Series/Late Model Stock doubleheader on Oct. 17.

Nearly 1,500 seats located at the top of the high-rise Winston Tower in turn 1 will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday. They are priced at $45 each. Call the speedway ticket office at 956-3151.
