Groh connected on an 18-yard pass to Larry Holmes, and Willis threw a 28-yard scoring strike to Patrick Jeffers.
Freshman Antonio Prosise rushed 14 times for a scrimmage-leading 52 yards, and senior Jerrod Washington added 42 yards on six carries.
Junior linebacker Randy Neal led the defense with 10 tackles, including two for losses.
The Cavaliers open their season Sept. 4 at ACC rival Maryland.

Quarterback Maurice DeShazo and split end Antonio Freeman staged an aerial show in Virginia Tech's final preseason scrimmage in Blacksburg.
DeShazo, a junior from Stuart, connected on 13 of 20 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his scoring strikes went to Freeman on plays covering 40 and 44 yards. DeShazo's other touchdown pass was a 3-yard play to tailback Tommy Edwards.
First team tailback Dwayne Thomas carried 11 times for 118 yards and one touchdown.
Freshman rover Lenarick Thomas and cornerback William Yarborough had the best defensive statistics. Thomas made nine tackles and Yarborough had seven tackles, a pass interception and a sack.
The Hokies face Bowling Green in their season opener Sept. 4 in Blacksburg.
Chris Meacham, a senior fullback from Lord Botetourt High School, stood out during VMI's final preseason scrimmage. Meacham rushed for 60 yards on eight carries and scored a touchdown as the Keydets tuned up for their regular-season opener Sept. 4 at Richmond.
"I thought Chris played well, and it's going to be important for him to keep doing that with the loss of Bryant McMillian," said Jim Shuck, VMI's coach.
Spike Johnson completed seven of 12 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. The Keydets' quarterback also rushed seven times for 87 yards.
Two UVa softball players were named first-team All-Americans during the weekend at the American Softball Association Major Fast Pitch Tournament in Stratford, Conn.
Pitcher Michelle Collins and catcher Eileen Schmidt, playing for the Topton (Pa.) VIP's, qualified to participate in the U.S. National Team tryout camp in Oklahoma City.
Collins, a junior from Clinton, Md., finished the tournament with a 2-1 record and a 0.32 ERA. Schmidt, a senior from Barto, Pa., hit .250 with an on-base percentage of .400.
