GUN SAFETY COURSE PLANNED

If you are considering the purchase of a gun for self-defense purposes, consider this class. The Shawnee Hunting Club and local law enforcement people are offering a training course in responsible gun ownership Oct. 14-17.

The course will cover safety, marksmanship, the selection, care and safe storage of firearms and the laws concerning the ownership and use of deadly weapons. The $25 fee covers all training materials, and firearms and ammunition will be provided, though participants may use their own.

The classroom sessions are scheduled for Oct. 14 and 15, 6-9:30 p.m. at the Blacksburg Recreation Center, while the shooting sessions are Oct. 16 and 17 at the club's private range.

Class size is limited to 40 people and reservations are required. Call the course coordinator after 6 p.m. at 382-7459 to register.
