HILLSVILLE GUN SHOW TO ALTER TRAFFIC FLOW

Traffic changes will be made starting Thursday to accommodate visitors to the Labor Day Gun Show and Flea Market Sept. 3-6.

Shuttle bus service will be offered from three parking lots. Electronic message boards will direct traffic to the lots.

No left turns will be allowed from U.S. 52 onto U.S. 58/221 in Hillsville.

No parking will be allowed in the U.S. 58 median from the Hillsville town limits to Interstate 77.

Motorists not planning to attend the annual event will be directed onto alternate routes around Hillsville.

Bob Beasley, assistant resident engineer at the Virginia Department of Transportation's Hillsville office, said "these measures won't eliminate traffic congestion during the Labor Day weekend, but we certainly expect to see some improvement in traffic flow."

He recommended that anyone not attending the gun show avoid the area. The show draws as many as 300,000 people to Hillsville each year.
