OBIT-KILBY, LANE MITCHELL SR.

KILBY, Lane Mitchell Sr., 72, of Radford, passed away Friday, August 27, 1993. He served in the U S Marines in the South Pacific during WWII, where he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Issac Walton League. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia M. Kilby, one son, Raymond M. Kilby, and one brother, Junior Edwin Kilby. Survivors include one son, Lane M. (Sonny) Kilby Jr., Dublin; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Patsy) Miller, Denton, N.C., Mrs. Dan (Roberta) Hayworth, Highpoint, N.C., Mrs. Wayne (Connie) Maddox, Roanoke; two brothers, Carol C. Kilby, Rugby, and Dean Kilby, Woodbridge; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Johnson, Grant, Mrs. Maxine Barnes, Norfolk, Mrs. Iva Ruth Roland, Highpoint, N.C., Ms. Barbara Jean Kilby, Grant; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford, with Rev. Bob Ferguson and Rev. Bobby Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, where the members of the VFW Post of Vinton and Pulaski will conduct military graveside rites. Contributions may be made to the Pulaski County Life Saving Crew. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home.
