SHUPING, Marie Cress, 89, of Salisbury, N.C., died Saturday, August 28,
1993 at the Meridian Nursing Center, following an illness of five months. She
was born March 20, 1904 in Rowan County, N.C. to the late Calvin Monroe and
Abigail Eugenia Cress. She attended Montamena Academy, Mt. Plesant, N.C and
Kings Business College in Charlotte. She was employed by Taylor Matress
Company and after her marriage, she was a full time homemaker. She was a
member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church for over sixty years and had been
a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Annie Kennerly Circle and the Minnie
Williams Circle of the church. She also was a lifetime member of the Lutheran
Church Women. She had been an active member of the Franklin-Ellis Home
Demonstration Club for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Carl E. Shuping, on Nov. 23, 1967 and a son, Carl L.(Buddy) Shuping, on Nov.
9, 1974. She is survived by one son, Winfred C. Shuping, Roanoke; one
daughter, Mrs. Miriam Small Roman, Palm Harbor, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Hallie
Ella Cress Saunders, Salisbury, N.C.; four grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 30, 1993
at the Bethel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Brian J. Stamm officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Shuping will remain at the Lyerly Funeral
Home until placed in the church at the funeral hour. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 t0 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made
to the Bethel Lutheran Church Building Fund, 355 East Ridge Road, Salisbury,
