PEOPLE COLUMN

If the rumors are right, Princess Sayako plans to meet with a prospective husband during her two-week tour of Europe.

Emperor Akihito's only daughter, who embarked Monday, was to stay at a summer villa owned by the Belgian royal family in Spain before heading to Brussels.

Several Japanese magazines and newspaper gossip columns have speculated that while in Belgium, Sayako will be introduced to Toshinaru Bojo, a 31-year-old architecture student whose family has close ties to the throne.

\ Sara Gilbert says she's relieved that "Roseanne" producers are slightly panicked by her departure this fall to Yale University.

Gilbert, sister of Mellisa Gilbert of "Little House on the Prarie," plays sharp-tongued daughter Darlene in the hit ABC sitcom.

"If they said, `Bye, we're writing you out,' I would have been crushed," she said in the Sept. 4 issue of TV Guide. Gilbert, who received an Emmy nomination for her role, will finish taping three shows in Los Angeles before moving to the Yale campus.

Executive producer Marcy Carsey decided to send Darlene off to art school in Chicago in the upcoming season, and Gilbert has been taping inserts of Darlene calling home from school. She'll also be visiting on vacations.
