MUSSER MAKING NORMAL RECOVERY, HOSPITAL SAYS

Roanoke City Councilman Howard Musser continues to make progress in recovering from a stroke that he suffered 10 days ago.

Musser remains in stable condition at Lewis-Gale Hospital where he is making a normal recovery, a nursing supervisor said Tuesday.

Musser, 63, said he doesn't know when he'll get out of the hospital, but it may be a couple of weeks.

He said he hasn't decided whether he will continue his campaign for commissioner of revenue.

His opponent, Democrat Marsha Fielder, has said she hopes Musser's health does not become an issue in the campaign.

Musser, a Democrat and councilman for 11 years, is running as an independent. He got into the race after David Anderson, deputy city treasurer, was beaten by Fielder for the Democratic nomination.

Republicans did not nominate a candidate.
