REDSKINS RE-SIGN 6 VETERANS

As expected, the Washington Redskins restored to their roster six veteran players whose contracts they "terminated" Monday, giving the club the NFL limit of 53 players.

Also, the Redskins established a five-man practice squad that includes one-time VMI receiver Greg Clifton.

Returned to the active roster were punter Kelly Goodburn, tight end Terry Orr, defensive linemen Eric Williams and Jason Buck, cornerback Johnny Thomas and center Guy Bingham. Safety Todd Bowles was not recalled, but he is expected to return within a couple of weeks, once the Redskins move a little-used rookie to the practice squad.

Clifton, a free-agent rookie who transferred to Johnson C. Smith after being an academic casualty at VMI, signed a practice-squad contract, along with safety Daryl Morrison. Also agreeing to terms for the practice squad were tight end Ray Rowe and offensive lineman Guy Earle, both recent cuts by Washington, and rookie running back Tico Duckett, a former Michigan State star who was waived by the New York Giants.

All NFL clubs must declare which six players on their 53-man rosters will be inactive for weekend games by Friday. Among the 47 remaining, two will be declared inactive on game day. - Staff report
