OBIT WHORLEY, ZULA JONES

WHORLEY, Zula Jones, 98, of Vinton, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 1993. Mrs. Whorley was born January 23, 1895 in Bedford County and was a lifelong resident of Goodview in the Emmaus Community in Moneta until 1987 when she went to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Emmaus United Methodist Church for many years. She was the daughter of the late James M. Jones, (a veteran and prisoner of the Civil War), and Annabelle Overstreet Jones of Goodview and the youngest of eight children, all deceased. She was a widow of Aubrey L. Whorley Sr. and also preceded in death by a son, A. Lynn Whorley Jr. Surviving are two sons and their wives, J. Gerald and Thelma Whorley of Goodview, F. Wendell and Jean Whorley of Bedford; one daughter, Leona Zimmerman of Vinton; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Whorley of Moneta; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Jones of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, September 2, 1993 at the Lotz Vinton Chapel. The Rev. Walter Mason and the Rev. Dave Snead will officiate. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lotz Vinton Chapel.
