In other news in the region:

Shellie Greenman, a 27-year-old Blacksburg native, has been hired as an assistant women's basketball coach at Western Carolina.

Greenman, who played at Emory & Henry, spent the last two seasons as the restricted-earnings assistant at Virginia Tech. She was a volunteer assistant with the Hokies during the 1988-89 and 1989-90 seasons.

"Shellie came to us highly recommended from Virginia Tech," said Gary Peters, Western Carolina's head coach. " . . . She made a good impression on us and I think she's a good fit for our program."
