IN SERVICE

Radford University graduate student and Army Reserve Specialist MALINDA KAY WALTERS EAST graduated with honors from Reserve Component Noncommissioned Officer Primary Leadership Course conducted by the Region 1 Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

East is working on a masters degree at Radford. She will be a special education teacher at George Wythe High School in Wytheville this year. She is the wife of Greg East of Dublin.

Those who recently received awards include:

Air Force Senior Master Sgt. CALVIN C. SHORTT, son of Marie Howell and stepson of Otis Howell of Floyd, has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal. The medal is awarded for outstanding non-combat achievement to the United States. It is Short's second award.

Shortt, an electrical superintendent and a 1972 graduate of Floyd County High School, is stationed at San Vito Dei Normanni Air Station in Brindisi, Italy.

Air Force Senior Airman RAYMOND E. MAXWELL JR., son of Raymond E. and Karen C. Maxwell of Pulaski, has been decorated with the Good Conduct Medal. The medal is awarded for exemplary conduct while in the active service of the United States.

Maxwell, an aircraft pneumatic systems specialist and a 1988 graduate of Pulaski County High School, is stationed at Elemendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

Those who recently completed special training include:

Army Reserve Spec. WILLIAM I. WYATT, son of Millard F. and Janice M. Wyatt of Pulaski, completed the Army primary leadership course at the reserve center in Marion.
