NEW FBI CHIEF FAVORS MERGING WITH DEA

New FBI Director Louis Freeh said Thursday he favored merging the Drug Enforcement Administration with the FBI to eliminate obvious duplication, but growing resistance from the DEA will provide Freeh with perhaps his first lesson in the Washington power game.

"It's under very active consideration," Freeh said in an interview in the director's office on his second day on the job as the FBI's fifth director. "You have a new administration, a new attorney general and a new director. This is probably an excellent time." - Chicago Tribune
