DARLINGTON CUTS SPRING RACE TO 400 MILES

Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, the site of two 500-mile NASCAR Winston Cup races each year since 1972, will cut its spring race to 400 miles.

Track president Jim Hunter said Darlington will hold the revamped TranSouth 400 on March 27, 1994. Darlington Raceway ran 400-mile events each spring from 1966 to 1972 until expanding to 500 miles.

Bjorn Ekblom, a professor at Stockholm's Karolinska Institute, called it "a big breakthrough in the battle against doping in sports."
