HOMELESS INTERVENTION PROGRAM

New River Community Action Inc. will administer the Homeless Intervention Program for Montgomery, Pulaski, Giles and Floyd counties and the city of Radford.

The program - funded by a $117,628 state Department of Housing and Community Development Virginia Housing Partnership grant - will provide interest-free loans or grants to qualified New River Valley residents who are homeless or are in imminent danger of becoming homeless.

Grants or loans may be used for temporary rent, mortgage or security-deposit payments.

The program also provides housing counseling services.

Recipients must be in a temporary financial crises due to unavoidable circumstances such as accident, illness, loss of job or a delay in receiving approved benefits. Applicants must have been self-sufficient prior to the crisis.
