LAWYER FACES MORE BAD-CHECK CHARGES

Attorney George W. Harris III was in a Roanoke County courtroom Friday to set trial dates for several of his clients.

At the same time, a Roanoke County grand jury was meeting to indict Harris on three felony counts of writing bad checks.

Harris, 34, also has been charged in Roanoke with writing eight checks totaling $10,350 from his account, which had insufficient funds, and cashing them at Roanoke banks in June.

Roanoke County Commonwealth's Attorney F.W. "Skip" Burkart said the three checks in Roanoke County total more than $3,500.

Harris also faces a possible bad-check charge in Salem.

Because Harris is the son of General District Judge George Harris, authorities have arranged for a special prosecutor to handle cases in Roanoke County and Salem, Burkart said.
