WHEW! IT'S ALLEGHANY OVER DEMONS IN WILD GAME 57-41

And the defense rested.

In a non-district football season opener that was very offensive, visiting Alleghany outscored Christiansburg 57-41, as running back David Cummings rushed for 183 yards on only 10 carries. He scored twice, including a 69-yard reception from quarterback David Dixon.

The game included 14 touchdowns, six turnovers - including two fumble recoveries returned for scores - and only four punts. Alleghany posted 385 total yards, compared to 354 for the Blue Demons.

Dixon ran for two touchdowns and passed for another for the Mountaineers. Christiansburg quarterback Mischa Alexander also threw a pair of scoring passes. David Cummings had two touchdowns for the winners, while Kareem Koonce had two long-distance touchdowns for the Demons.

Andre Beasley's 104 yards, on 15 carries, paced Christiansburg. \
