OBIT-NEWMAN, VIOLA C.

NEWMAN, Viola C., 89, of Bedford, passed away Friday, September 3, 1993, in the Richfield Retirement Center, Salem. She was born November 29, 1903, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late John Wesley Creasey and Annabelle Witt Creasey. Her husband was the late James Lewis Newman. She was a member of the Ephesus United Methodist Church. She is survived by five sons, P. E. (Eddie) Newman, Bedford, J. Lewis Newman, Roanoke, W. Cline Newman, Salem, Franklin G. Newman, Bushnell, Florida, Richard E. Newman, Vinton; seven daughters, Mabel N. Lucado, Maggie N. Garlick, both of Salem, Doris N. Yeatts, Phyllis N. States, Barbara N. Hayes, all of Roanoke, Shirley N. Amos, Vinton, Linda N. Whitmore, Bedford; a sister, Letha Bowyer, Bedford; a sister-in-law, Nellie Creasey, Bedford; 28 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 1993, from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment will follow in the Pecks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
