WILSON NOTCHES FCS VICTORY

Salem's Dicky Wilson observed his birthday Thursday, but he saved the celebration for Saturday night. And Tony McGuire gave him the biggest present.

Wilson took advantage of McGuire's misfortune and won the 100-lap Late Model Stock Car feature of the Rentco Eagle 300 at Franklin County Speedway in Callaway. The win was the first of the season for Wilson, last year's points champion.

Wilson started on the pole and ran well the entire race, but he won it on lap 80 when McGuire, the leader and six-time winner, broke a ball joint on his front right wheel.

Harvey Harrison finished second, and points leader Dudley Lawhorn took third. Danny Willis and Ronnie Newman placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In other FCS races:

Mini Stock points leader Steve Lynch outran a 15-car field and returned to the winner's circle after a week's hiatus. James Cox and Carlton Clark finished second and third, respectively.

Dale Marlowe, the Street Stock winner Aug. 28, was forced to settle for second Saturday night. Marlowe shadowed pole-sitter Phillip VanDerVeer for 25 laps and finished a car-length behind. VanDerVeer, the points leader, won for the 11th time this season but the first time since July 10. Lonnie Foley took third.
