OBIT EDWARDS, RUBYE FLEENOR
EDWARDS, Rubye Fleenor, 83, of Salem, died September 3, 1993, in a local
hospital. She received a teaching certificate from Radford College, then went
on to teach in the Mining towns of Southwest Virginia. In July of 1938, she
married the Rev. Barnard P. Edwards. Alongside him, she served in churches
teaching Sunday school and working with the Christian Women's Fellowship. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Barnard P. Edwards. Survivors
include one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. David Livingstone Edwards and Rev.
Kaye Edwards of Lynchburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rev. Sylvia Edwards
Mill and Rev. John Stuart Mill of Indianapolis, Ind., Carol Louise Edwards of
Salem; five grandchildren, Kent and Shelley Edwards of Lynchburg, John Stuart
Mill III, Indianapolis, Ind., David Mill, Cincinatti, Ohio, and Bonnie Mill,
Evansville, Ind.; brother, Charles H. Fleenor, Glendale Springs, N.C.; sister,
Thelma Farris, Salem. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday,
September 7, 1993, at Sherwood Memorial Park, followed by a 11 a.m. memorial
service at First Christian Church in Salem. Rev. Wayne McCauley will
officiate. The family will receive friends at the John M. Oakey and Son
Funeral Home in Salem on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Contributions may be made to
the First Christian Church at 712 Front Street, Salem, Va. 24153; Salem
Volunteer Rescue Squad, or your favorite charity.
