OBIT STEWART, DR. HENRY WARNER
STEWART, Dr. Henry Warner, of Christiansburg, died Friday night, September
3, 1993. He was an Optometrist in Christiansburg for 40 years. He was born on
July 14, 1916, in Dime, Ala., the second son of Henry and Viola Shipman
Stewart. He attended the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Southern College
and was a graduate of the Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Stewart was a
member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, the American Optometric Association,
the Virginia Optometric Association and the Christiansburg Lions Club where he
was a recipient of the Lions Distinguished Service Award. He was a Navy
Veteran of World War II and also served in Korea as a member of the United
States Naval Reserve. Surviving are his wife, Betty Schenk Stewart; one son,
H. Warner Stewart III of Hillsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan
Stewart Smith and J. Michael Smith; two granddaughters, Anne-Taylor Smith and
Sarah-Winston Smith, all of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; a brother, Hiram W. Stewart
of Gulfport, Miss. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday from St. Thomas'
Episcopal Church, conducted by Father Robert Goldsmith with burial in Sunset
Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church Chapel on Sunday,
September 5 from 6 until 8 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers,
memorials be made to St. Thomas' Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 236,
Christiansburg, VA 24073. Arrangements are being handled by Richardson-Horne
Funeral Home.
