OBIT JORDAN, RUTH GILBERT
JORDAN, Ruth Gilbert, 81, of the 1200 block of Colonial Avenue, Norfolk,
died Friday, September 3, 1993, in her residence. Mrs. Jordan was a retired
hostess from Smith and Welton's Tea Room in 1980, and formerly a cashier at
the Officer's Club at NOB. She was a native of Norfolk. She was the widow if
Frank L. Jordan. She was a member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. She
was a beloved mother and devoted friend to her three daughters, Edith Robinson
of Virginia Beach, Jacqueline `Jackie' Stutz of Chesapeake and Sandra D. Beard
of Salem; two sisters, Reeves R. Cronise of Roanoke and Clara R. Marshall of
Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many friends of long
standing. She was preceded in death by her first husband John W. Gilbert. A
chapel service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 1993, at H.
D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, by the Pastor Jack Austin. Burial will be at
Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to
8 in the Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart
Association.
