FOR CANDIDATES, A DAY OF LABOR

Labor Day may be a day of rest for workers, but it's one of the busiest days of the season for candidates.

Tradition dictates that statewide candidates in Virginia begin their Labor Day with breakfast and a parade in Buena Vista.

This year, five of the six statewide candidates will be there, and most will continue on to another traditional labor rally at Clifton Forge.

Only Bill Dolan, the Democratic candidate for attorney general, will miss out. He'll be driving his son to school at the University of Michigan this weekend, then flying back to catch up with the rest of the Democratic ticket at later stops.

Here's the travelogue:

GOVERNOR

Mary Sue Terry (D): Buena Vista, Clifton Forge, Newport News, Abingdon

George Allen (R): Buena Vista, Richmond, Woodbridge, Alexandria

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Don Beyer (D): Buena Vista, Clifton Forge, Newport News, Abingdon

Mike Farris (R): Buena Vista, Suffolk

ATTORNEY GENERAL

Bill Dolan (D): Newport News, Abingdon

Jim Gilmore (R): Buena Vista, Clifton Forge
