OBIT DUNCAN, GILBERT WILEY

DUNCAN, Gilbert Wiley, 89, of Hillsville, passed away Saturday, September 4, 1993, at Radford Community Hospital. He was born in Floyd County to John B. Duncan and Vergie Phillips. Mr. Duncan served in law enforcement in Floyd and Carroll Counties for over 40 years. He served as a Deputy in Floyd County, Chief of Police of Hillsville, and Sheriff of Carroll County. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Reva and Robert Semones, Greensboro, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Sarah Duncan, Christiansburg; two sisters, Jemima Lester, Riner, Lelia Akers, Willis; three brothers, Fred Duncan, Vance Duncan, both of Christiansburg, Percy Duncan, Radford; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 1993, at the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Kenneth Hopkins officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Duncan will lie in state at the church, one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Indian Valley, Va. 24105. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville. Funeral arrangements are by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.
