WINNERS IN THE 17TH ANNUAL SHERWOOD

Winners in the 17th annual Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest will receive their awards Sept. 18 at the Holiday Inn, with a program starting at 4 p.m. and a dinner at 6 p.m.

The first-place winners in each category were Jeri Hanel Watts, Lexington, among adults; John Copenhaver, Marion, for high school; Joshua A. Wysor, Troutdale, middle school, and William Humsi, Marion, primary school.

Other winners included Kelly Ann Creger, Wytheville, third-place in high school category; Jason Aaron Litz, Speedwell, second in middle school; two ties in the primary school category, Nicole A. Moskowitz of Marion and Philip J. Edwards, Bristol, Tenn., for second, and Jessamyn Losse and Jennifer Boehm, both of Marion, and Sean P. Wysor, Troutdale, for third, and Sandra Tucker-Maxwell, Roanoke, tying with G. Hale Broce, Covington, for third place among adults.

The awards program is open to the public at no cost. The dinner is $13 per person. Dinner reservations must be made by Sept. 14 by calling Don Francis at 783-3911 (office) or 783-8230 (home).
