LAND-USE HANDBOOK DEVELOPED AT TECH

A handbook for land use in Virginia has been developed by Virginia Tech's College of Architecture and Urban Studies.

With a grant from the Virginia Environmental Endowment, the community design assistance center will provide the new "Open Space Handbook: A Decision-Maker's Guide for Virginia" to state and local officials who are involved in land-use decisions and concerns.

Principal author and graduate student Garnett Mellen said "Open space planning is a pro-active approach rather than a reactionary approach to the environment. The handbook will help Virginia decision makers rethink the way they deal with environmental planning."
