OUT-OF-STATE DRIVER RUNS OFF HIGHWAY, HITS TREE, IS KILLED

A motorist died Monday afternoon on the Roy L. Webber Highway in Roanoke when the car he was driving south ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

City police did not release the victim's name because his family had not been notified. A spokesman said the dead man was not a Virginia resident.

The accident happened about 1:15 p.m. about one mile north of Virginia 419. There were no passengers in the vehicle. The police spokesman said he did not know why the car had run off the road.
