Josh Dutton, 9, and his sister Amanda Dutton, 7, were the children of Paul Dutton of Wichita, a driver who was not competing at the time of the accident Saturday night at 81 Speedway.
Amanda died early Sunday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Her brother died about 11 a.m. Monday at HCA Wesley Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. No further information was available, she said.
The children were injured when the right hub broke on a sprint car driven by Jon Johnson, who was leading in a qualifying heat. The tire and wheel came off, bounced over a chain-link fence and landed in the stands, where the children sat with their mother and grandparents.
No one else was injured.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department lists the incident as a "public accident" and said no criminal investigation will be pursued.
A trust fund has been set up in the children's names at Garden Plain State Bank in Wichita. - Associated Press
