GENERALS' WOES CONTINUE WITH INJURY TO TAILBACK

The Washington and Lee football team suffered another setback Saturday when senior tailback Tom Mason, the Generals' leading rusher last year, broke a bone in his left hand during a scrimmage.

Mason, a team captain, will miss Saturday's opener at Emory & Henry. W & L has the next week off and Mason could possibly return for the home opener Sept. 25 against Centre.

Mason, 6 feet and 190 pounds, rushed for 518 yards last year after being moved from wide receiver to tailback midway through the season. He averaged more than 120 yards per game in his four starts.

Generals coach Gary Fallon also announced that sophomore Matt Reedy will start at quarterback Saturday and that freshman Brooks Fischer has moved up to the No. 2 position.

Reedy saw action in two games last year as a backup to Geren Steiner, who did not return to the team this season. Reedy completed six of 14 passes with one interception, rushed for 56 yards and scored one touchdown.
