Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corp., a Greensboro, N.C.-based manufacturer with a factory in Dublin, said Tuesday it will continue its operations under the proposed merger of its parent, AB Volvo of Sweden with Renault SA of France.
Renault is parent of Mack Trucks Inc. Both U.S. truck companies will become subsidiaries of Renault-Volvo RVA, the new company to be created Jan. 1. "Under the new structure, Mack Trucks and Volvo GM Heavy Truck will continue to operate as completely separate entities, with separate nameplates, products and distribution networks," the company said.
Volvo GM is 87 percent owned by Volvo and 13 percent by General Motors Corp. GM intends to remain a participant in the new structure, the company said. - Staff report
Cellular One opens office at Townside
Cellular One, a cellular telephone division of Century Communications Corp. operating in Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Roanoke, has opened a sales office at Townside Festival shopping center on Franklin Road, Roanoke. VTLS makes deal for Australian trade
VTLS Inc., a Blacksburg company specializing in computer software, hardware and services for libraries, has signed a distributorship agreement with Altarama Systems Pty Ltd., an Australian company with similar markets in Australia and New Zealand.
Also, VTLS said it is completed the first phase of a project creating a database for the Virginia State Library and Archives that integrates records of 15 Virginia college, university and public libraries. - Staff report
