RVC WINS SOCCER OPENER

Roanoke Valley Christian was led by Josh MacDermod's three goals as the Eagles won their season opener against Lynchburg Christian 6-2 on Tuesday. The Eagles scored four goals in the first 15 minutes.

Although both teams compete in the Virginia Independent Conference, the game did not count in the conference standings.

At Boiling Springs, N.C., freshman goalkeeper Daniella Giusto had 17 saves, but it wasn't enough as Gardner-Webb pounded Ferrum's women's soccer team 3-0 on Tuesday. Gardner-Webb outshot Ferrum 23-10. Ferrum (1-1) plays at home Thursday against Lynchburg College.
