9 TEENS CHARGED IN CAR, HOME BREAK-INS

Nine teen-agers have been charged by town police with breaking into a number of cars and homes in June and July.

Lt. Doug Marrs said the 16- and 17-year-old were charged last week with a total of 72 charges representing more than $76,000 in stolen property and property damage.

The majority of thefts in the 20 cases involved taking stereo equipment from vehicles throughout the town, Marrs said.

The 72 charges were: 35 grand larcenies; 12 petty larcenies; four attempted break-ins; eight break-ins; and 13 acts of vandalism.

Marrs said police recovered more than $47,000 of the almost $66,000 worth of stolen property. More than $10,000 in property damage occurred, he said.
