OBIT PEERY, THE HONORABLE ALBERT GILLESPIE
PEERY, The Honorable Albert Gillespie, 84, of Tazewell, died Tuesday,
September 7, 1993, at his home. Born in Tazewell, Va., he was a son of the
late Governor George C. Peery and Nancy Gillespie Peery. He was educated in
the Tazewell County Public Schools and graduated from Washington & Lee
University in the law class of 1932. He began his private law practice in
Tazewell that same year and was named to the bench in 1935, as Trial Justice
for Tazewell. Later in his career, he was named District Judge for Tazewell
and Bland Counties and retired from that court in 1977. Judge Perry was a
member of the Tazewell Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by one
brother, George C. Perry Jr. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Junkin Peery;
one sister, Mrs. Claud (Nancy) Whitley of Richmond; one daughter, Nettie Perry
Green of Wilmington, Del.; three sons, George J. Peery of Asheville, N.C.,
Albert G. (Pete) Peery Jr. of Matthews, N.C. and F. Campbell Peery of
Winston-Salem, N.C.; eight grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted
Thursday, September 9, at 11 a.m. at the Tazewell Presbyterian Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell Presbyterian Church,
designated to Global Missions. Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va.
is in charge of the arrangements.
