CHRISTIANSBURG POLICE SEEK DRIVER WHO HIT BICYCLIST

Town police were searching Wednesday for a hit-and-run driver who struck a bicyclist on Roanoke Street at noon.

Paul Jefferson Laferriere, 34, was on his way to work at Wendy's fast-food restaurant when his bicycle was struck by a 1966 black Ford Mustang, Officer C.E. Bishop said.

Laferriere was in the turn lane when the Mustang pulled out from Shelor Chevrolet, collided with the bicycle, knocking Laferriere off.

Laferriere was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.

The driver of the car, which has white or gray stabilizers on both sides, left the scene and went to 84 Lumber for a brief time. A clerk at another nearby store noticed the car but it had left by the time police were notified, Bishop said.
