BLACKSBURG CABLE TO CARRY FOX CHANNEL

Blacksburg Cable TV has announced an agreement to carry the television programming of the Roanoke-Lynchburg Fox network affiliate, WJPR/WVFT, channels 21 and 27, known as "Fox 21/27."

The pact is the first retransmission consent agreement completed by the cable company under new federal regulations governing the cable television industry.

Fox 21/27 will not get any cash payment for permission to carry its over-the-air signal.

However, the station will get a portion of ownership in the new cable channel and have a chance to program two hours of material each day.

The agreement includes a commitment by Fox Broadcasting Company to develop and provide Blacksburg Cable with a new, 24-hour-per-day basic cable service by next spring.

The as-yet-unnamed service will offer a variety of first-run programs.

Fox 21/27 will remain on cable channel 8 in Blacksburg.
