constant and devoted nurse. Mr. Rutherfoord had a keen mind and cultivated a
wide range of interests. He was a professional engineer, having received a
B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1937. He
worked for the General Electric Company for 21 years, rising from a traveling
salesman to the highest levels of management. He taught for several years at
their management training center in Croton, N.Y., and served as consultant to
the executive staff. He and Ann moved back to the state they called home in
1971, settling in Marion. He retired from private consulting in 1987 and moved

Funeral Home in Roanoke. The family will hold a viewing Friday evening,
September 10. Rev. William Rutherfoord will conduct the funeral service on
Saturday, September 11 at noon at Oakey's downtown chapel. Mr. Rutherfoord
will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Fairview Cemetery on Melrose
Avenue at approximately 1 p.m. It was remarked by those who knew him in his
final years that he was a Virginia gentleman to the end. Through the many
trials that life had to offer him, he managed to retain his bouyant optimism,
gentle manners, and consideration for others. No child could have asked for a
better parent, nor man a better friend.
