CRAIG COUNTY TO APPOINT COMMISSION ON TOURISM

The Craig County Board of Supervisors has decided to appoint a commission to promote the one thing Craig County has to offer - recreation.

Supervisors noted that nearly three-fourths of Craig's land area is within the boundary of the Jefferson National Forest and the county is always squeezed for revenue when they decided on the commission Tuesday.

County Administrator Richard C. Flora suggested forming a commission on tourism, which will have 10 or 12 members.

"We need to put together a plan to market tourism in Craig," Flora said, adding the county's comprehensive plan "supports the concept that tourism is the most likely economic development option available to the county." He suggested that commission members come from as many interest groups as possible as well as the general public.
