3 FRANKLIN COUNTY TEENS SURVIVE CRASH

Three Franklin County teen-agers remained in very serious condition Thursday night after their car struck a tree Wednesday evening in the median of U.S. 220 in Roanoke County.

Officer M.W. Jackson said the driver, Justen Clemons, 18, of Wirtz, was heading north at 6:45 p.m. near the Franklin County line when he lost control of the car, which crashed head-on into a tree.

A 14-year-old boy riding in the back was thrown from the car. Rescue workers had to cut Clemons and a passenger, a 19-year-old man, from the wreckage. Jackson declined to release the names of the passengers. All three were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Jackson said they suffered broken bones and internal injuries.
