BLACKSBURG BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS ANNOUNCED

The Townscape Committee handed out its annual Civic Beautification Awards Thursday night at the Blacksburg Municipal Building.

The winners:

Blacksburg Presbyterian Church at Church and Eakin Streets in the institution category.

Virginia Tech Museum of Natural History on North Main Street in the institution category.

A parcel of land owned by Kate Hoge at Hemlock Street and Preston Avenue won an award in the unique area category.

Robert E. Lyons home at 802 Gracelyn Court in the single-family residence category.

Marilyn Grender's home at 602 Rainbow Ridge in the single-family residence category.

Colony Park Owners Association at 2001 S. Main St. in the professional office category.

British Isle Originals owned by John and Lynn Lipsey at 215 Harding Ave. in the commercial/industrial category.

Honorable mentions:

Town of Blacksburg's Memorial Gardens at Clay and Draper streets next to the Police Station.

Allen Bowman's home at 1408 Palmer Drive.

Tom and Christine Marlowe's home at 2004 Shadow Lake Drive.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at 830 University City Blvd.

John Utin at 824 Toms Creek Road.

Homecorp for the Terrace View Apartments off Toms Creek Road.

The town's horticulturists also received an award for their overall efforts in beautifying Blacksburg.
