BURNING CHARGE SENT TO GRAND JURY

A criminal charge against a Blacksburg man accused of burning a juvenile with a heated medallion was sent to the grand jury Friday, court officials said.

Lee Evans Webb May, 18, is alleged to have touched a pentagram that had been heated with a lighter to an 11-year-old boy's back. The boy received seconddegree burns, but was not hospitalized.

A pentagram is a symbol, usually a five-pointed star, once used in magic. Police have said the incident was not related to the occult.

The malicious wounding charge was passed on to the grand jury Friday by Judge J. Patrick Graybeal, said Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Peggy Frank.
